The Story of Pessel Pastry
From Traditional Bakery to Artisan Design and Back
A Heritage Born in 1890
The story of Pessel Pastry begins over a century ago. In 1890, a traditional bakery opened its doors in the small village of Kanis, located in Holland’s historic green countryside: Bakkerij Pessel. Deeply rooted in our family, the bakery was eventually run by my grandfather, and later taken over by my father and his two brothers. For decades, it stood as a true family cornerstone. Multiple generations worked side by side. It was a life of early mornings and heavy physical labor—an honest, hardworking mentality with a quiet pride in delivering quality bread and pastry to their local customers.

From the Bakery to the Design Studio
As a child, I was often around the bakery—watching, helping out with small chores, and of course, tasting the final results. The bakery played a massive role in our family, running from early morning until late at night, with my father in the bakery and my mother managing the shop. Because I enjoyed the work and the environment, choosing my path was simple: I went to bakery school and eventually joined the family business full-time, working there for years until its final chapter closed.
After the closing of the bakery, life took me on a new creative path. I transitioned into graphic and 3D design, and later founded my own artisan printing shop, specializing in fine embossing and letterpress. Surprisingly, I found major similarities between the printing craft and the baking trade. This shift allowed me to learn how to translate clean, precise visual concepts and master the balance between traditional craftsmanship and modern technology.
The Next Chapter
Artisan Baking molds are where my experiences in different trades come together: a deep understanding of traditional baking and a background in precise graphic design. By creating these artisan tools, I am proud to carry forward the heritage of Bakkerij Pessel. In a world of synthetic copies and mass production from afar, Pessel Pastry stands for authentic, 100% Dutch-made quality—dedicated to honoring and keeping the rich European artisan baking tradition alive for the future.
